A married couple is marking 40 years of running their local community pub in Buckinghamshire.

David and Kath Ell have been at the helm of the Nags Head in Winslow, which is owned by Admiral Taverns.

The duo took the pub on in 1983 and along with their children Jason and Katie, they have put the pub at the heart of its community.

This month (March), Admiral business development manager Paul Barnfather visited the couple, who have worked in the sector their whole lives, and presented them with a certificate of achievement alongside flowers and Champagne to recognise their service.

Pub offer

The traditional pub offers three regular ales – Sharp’s Doom Bar, Tetley Bitter and Timothy Taylor Landlord as well as lagers Madri and Pravha.

Furthermore, the Nags Head is a hit with sports fans, hosting three televisions, broadcasting football through to rugby and cricket.

The pub team support the local community through an annual schedule of events including live music, weekly darts and pool teams alongside a yearly clay pigeon shooting for charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Amazing journey

Kath said: “I can’t believe it has already been 40 years. This pub means everything to us and I’m so grateful to all our customers for their loyalty and continuous support over the years.

“We’ve had such an amazing journey, watching both our children grow up at the pub and I look forward to seeing what is to come.

“I would also like to thank my fantastic team who I’ve worked with over the years, as none of this would be possible without them.”

Admiral Taverns business development manager Paul Barnfather congratulated the duo and the team at the pub, describing the anniversary as a brilliant achievement.

He added: “They have truly created a special pub that sits at the heart of the community and is very popular with the local residents. I wish the team every success for the future.”
