Adnams and Five Points release collaborative brew

MixCollage-04-Sep-2024-01-03-PM-1277

Adnams and Five Points breweries have joined forces to release a collaborative new brew, Distant Fields (4.5% ABV).

Celebrating locality and seasonality, the new beer has been brewed in a landbier (‘country beer’) style.

The golden amber serve, which is also vegan, offers initial toast and bready notes on the nose followed by autumnal red berries and a touch of citrus lemon, balancing the light spice and charred maltiness.

Adnams head brewer Dan Gooderham said: “Part of the inspiration was our locality – being the heartland for malting grade barley means provenance is key. Plus, we’ve got a local roaster in Simpsons Malt.

“We both try to use English ingredients whenever we can, so we brewed with a broad range of malts, all English hops, and a special yeast to bring everything together.”

Distant Fields was brewed with Vienna, Dark Crystal and Double Roasted Crystal malts from Simpsons and East Anglia.

Hukins Hops in Kent supplied the Bullion and Fuggles, while UK Admiral hops were also used alongside a Swiss yeast strain, Après Ski, which was selected in a nod to Five Points’ head brewer Max Descloux’s Swiss heritage and adds a touch of fruit and floral notes.

Distant Fields is available now in both cask and keg format from Adnams pubs and stockists across East Anglia, as well as in Heineken Free Trade, Star Pubs and via Adnams key partner Wholesalers.

The serve is also available in canned format at RPP £29.99 for 12x440ml from Adnams webshop.

White Claw introduces vodka range

MixCollage-04-Sep-2024-01-19-PM-449

RTD brand White Claw has launched a new vodka range, available in four flavours.

Available from the brand’s webshop Friday 20 September in 70cl bottle format at RRP £21, the range features an unflavoured vodka (40% ABV) as well as Black Cherry, Pineapple and Mango variants (30% ABV).

The spirits have been created using the Triple Wave Filtered™ process, a White Claw invention that uses the power of three 30-foot waves during the distilling process to enhance the vodka’s purity and smoothness, allowing the fruity flavours to come to the fore.

Since its American debut in 2023, White Claw Vodka has won multiple awards including Double Gold for its unflavoured Premium variant at the New York International Spirits Competition.

White Claw managing director Michael Dean said: “We are so excited to introduce White Claw Vodka to the UK market and give consumers a new, fresh option in the vodka space to bring new flavour to your social occasions.

“Our Triple Wave Filtering™ process sets a new standard in the spirits industry, delivering a level of smoothness and clarity that is truly unparalleled.

“By harnessing the power of the ocean, we've created a vodka that not only complements our existing range of hard seltzers but also offers a fresh and exciting way for consumers to elevate their cocktail experiences.

“Get ready to ride the wave and experience White Claw Vodka – it's time to elevate your cocktail game and make some serious waves.”

Greene King is set to launch two seasonal cask beers, including a new brew named in honour of the brewery’s own fire brigade.

Watch Room, a 4.3% ABV golden ale, will be joined by Conkers Bonkers, a 4.1% ABV autumn ale, as the seasonal beers for September.

Greene King head brewer Jack Palmer said: “Watch Room is a delicious fruity beer and a great addition to the bar as guests try to capture those last moments of summer and so it’s great to have a limited-time beer available as pubs start to look at changing their range for a new season.

“Bonkers Conkers has been a much-loved beer for many years and it had great success in the calendar last year so we felt it right to bring it back for such a key month for cask.”

Thornbridge to release Union in bottle format

The Union 500ml-beer_bottle

Thornbridge Brewery has announced the Union IPA will be availed in bottled format for the first time from September.

Earlier this year, the Derbyshire brewer saved a Burton union set from Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company (CMBC) and has been making sure it is used on a regular basis – starting with its flagship brew, Jaipur, to make sure it all worked.

Following this, the firm released the Union, a 6% ABV beer brewed exclusively using the historic brewing equipment, which was initially released to the on-trade in July.

Made using British grown hops including Goldings and Northdown, the serve, which won a gold medal at the CAMRA Peterborough Beer Festival in the strong ale category, boasts berry flavours with a rounded cedar-like aroma.

Having been “hugely popular” on cask, the brew will be made available in bottle format from September, launching as part of Thornbridge’s Beer Club and bottle conditioned slightly stronger than its cask counterpart.

MixCollage-04-Sep-2024-05-31-PM-6151

Vault City has re-introduced its Buckfast-inspired sour beer, Black Grape Buckie V.2.

Having sold 7,000 litres of the serve during its first release, the Edinburgh brewery has brought back the 8.3% ABV brew, which boasts notes of sweet, stewed stone fruits and black grapes, by popular demand.

Co-founder Steven Smith Hay said: “We wanted to create a drink that wasn’t just a beer; it’s a cultural phenomenon in a can.

“We are thrilled about the reception to our Buckfast-inspired brew. Having sold the equivalent of 15k cans of this first release, we couldn’t ignore the demand.

“We are proud to bring a taste of Scottish culture to customers far afield and to cater to those looking for more accessible, funky flavours of sour beer.”

Vault City Black Grape Buckie V.2 is available now direct from the brands website in 440ml can format, priced at £7.95 per serve.
