Craft brewery and bar-chain owner BrewDog has announced the return of two of its highest-strength beers.

The brewery’s 32% ABV Tactical Nuclear Penguin and 22% ABV Hop Shot are available to buy in 110ml bottles directly from the BrewDog website.

Tactical Nuclear Penguin is an imperial stout frozen and decanted at -20C to increase its intensity and strengthen its alcohol content. It was first brewed back in 2009 and once held the title of the world’s strongest beer.

'Spiced mocha notes'

It is described by the brewery as having a “powerful coffee chocolate liqueur character, spiced mocha notes and a backbone of alcohol.”

Hop Shot was first launched by BrewDog in December 2016, and is a quadruple IPA with an ABV of 22%. The beer is made with west coast US hops and has aromas of grapefruit peel, sticky stewed orange and yuzu, combined with heady pine sap and resin.

The brewery also has its sights set on opening a new London venue, and is in advanced talks to open a unit in Minster Court in the City later this year, according to The Morning Advertiser's sister publication MCA.

Charitable donation

Earlier this week, BrewDog announced it will give away 20% of its profits every year, with half of this money going to charity.

Some 10% of the company’s profits will be shared equally among its staff, while the other 10% will go to charities chosen by the brewery’s 1,000-strong workforce and 57,000 Equity Punk investors.

BrewDog co-founder James Watt said that the initiative was “the biggest community-fuelled, crowdfunded charity contribution in history”.
