Greene King has exceeded its £1 million fundraising target for Macmillan Cancer Support by £200,000.

The pub operator and brewer is celebrating the efforts of its staff in hitting the milestone eight months ahead of target.

Employees across the company have been busy fundraising through bespoke campaigns, including Macmillan May and Tour de Horse through participation in Macmillan’s flagship fundraiser the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, as well as through individual fundraising events.

In May, Greene King also completed its first ever cross-business challenge with 162 employees taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge.

Chief executive officer Rooney Anand said: “Our employees and customers have worked tirelessly with real passion and enthusiasm to raise much needed funds for Macmillan. I think it is truly inspirational that they have managed to smash our target and raise £1.2 million with eight months of our partnership still to go.”

Incredible

Lynda Thomas, director of fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support says: “To have reached and exceeded a fundraising target of £1 million is an incredible achievement, congratulations to all the employees and customers of Greene King. The money raised will help fund Macmillan’s practical, emotional, financial and medical support services, all of which are vital as we aim to ensure that no one faces cancer alone. “

Pauline Lingard, manager of Greene King’s Horsforth pub in Leeds, has fundraised for Macmillan during the last two years, and said: “Supporting Macmillan has been really important to the team. Many of our local customers say that they have been helped by the charity, so we are really proud that our fundraising will have made a difference to their situation.”

Greene King will support the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning again this September, aiming to build on the £218,000 they have raised during this event over the last two years.
