To kick off the campaign, the charity transformed Spirit pub the Anchor Bankside, on London’s South Bank, into the ‘Men United Arms’ and raised thousands of pounds through a number of charity events.
The pub provided a focus for the campaign’s ‘keeping friendships alive’ theme – which aims to give men all over the country a reason to see their friends more, get together with their mates and do something to help beat prostate cancer.
Westerham Brewery rebadged its house beer as Men United Ale and gave 10p from every sale to charity.
Socialise
Mike Tye, chief executive at Spirit Pub Company, said: “There’s no more familiar space to socialise than a local pub and ‘The Men United Arms’ is a brilliant venue to gather your friends - and keep friendships alive. We hope this Men United Arms will be the first of many across the country, and we’re delighted to be supporting Prostate Cancer UK.”
Owen Sharp, chief executive of Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We want the Men United Arms to be a real trailblazer, inspiring pubs, clubs and all types of venues across the country to create their own Men United Arms.”
Plans are in place for more Men United Arms ‘pop ups’. Email menunitedarms@prostatecanceruk.org to get involved.
