Newly promoted Employment Minister, Esther McVey, met some of Spirit Pub Company’s newest recruits in one of her first ministerial visits.

The former television presenter met participants on the company’s Sector Based Work Academy at Ye Olde Cock Tavern in Fleet Street, London.

She joined Spirit’s CEO Mike Tye and Head of Central HR and Resourcing Ali Piper at the bar to congratulate the latest team members to have gained employment through the programme.

McVey said: “It was a pleasure to meet so many successful participants from Spirit’s Sector Based Work Academy.

“Creating jobs and helping more people into employment is central for our economy to grow and getting more young people into work is one of the Governments’ top priorities this year.

Opportunities

“Today I have seen first-hand how the initiative, which is championed by Mike, Ali and all at Spirit, is leading to fantastic employment opportunities and genuinely changing peoples’ lives.”

Spirit’s Sector Based Work Academies are delivered monthly in central London and are also arranged throughout the UK to support new ventures. Spirit staff across the country help to mentor and support unemployed people by providing an insight into the world of work.

Tye said: “We are extremely grateful to Esther for taking the time to come and meet our latest participants at one of our pubs today. We are proud of our proactive work with the Department for Work and Pensions and are fully committed to getting people back into work.”
