News of the brews: Writer Danny Wallace is the latest celebrity to get a beer, plus beers from California and Innis & Gunn
Writer and presenter Danny Wallace has brewed his own beer with revived London brewery Truman’s.
Called Tom Ditto IPA, the 5% ABV beer marks the launch of his new novel, Who is Tom Ditto due to be published in April.
The American-style IPA is made with an experimental hop called Wallex, alongside challenger and centennial hops. It is said to be, “full of juicy hoppy flavours” and will be available in Nicholson’s pubs nationwide, as part of its Spring Ales Festival.
American Craft brewery heads to the UK
Californian craft brewery North Coast is bringing its beers to the UK for the first time.
The brewery was established in 1988 and is based at Fort Bragg Medocino County.
The selected range heading for the UK includes Old Rasputin Imperial Stout, the Trappist-style Brother Thelonious ale, Blue Star Wheat Beer and Scrimshaw Pilsner.
They are available from this week from UK distributor Left Coast Distribution.
Innis & Gunn is smokin'
Innis & Gunn has been working with the head bartender of the Hinds Head pub in Bray to create a new brew.
The 7.4% ABV Smokin’ Gunn is the brewer’s first smoked beer, based on a Bamberg Rauchbier.
It is made with German malts smoked over beech wood and is aged in ex-bourbon casks before receiving a dash of maple syrup for a “toasty sweetness.”
