Provenance Inns, the high-quality food-led operator led by Michael Ibbotson, has acquired its seventh site and is looking to “cherry-pick” future acquisitions.

The company has bought the Crown & Cushion in Welburn, North Yorkshire, from Punch Taverns for an undisclosed sum.

It follows Provenance Inns’ recent acquisition of the Black Bull Inn, in the nearby village of Moulton, and the West Park Hotel in Harrogate, also in North Yorkshire.

In terms of further expansion, Ibbotson said, “never say never” but emphasised the difficulty in finding the right sites. “We’ve looked at more than 250 in this area alone and only got these that fit our business model.”

He said the firm would “take stock” after its upcoming openings, then “definitely cherry-pick the odd site”.
