The chef/owner of the top gastropub in the Morning Advertiser's "Old Speckled Hen" Top 50 Gastropubs 2010 is launching a second cookbook.

"Loose Birds and Game" by Andrew Pern, owner of the Star Inn, Harome, North Yorkshire, is out on 10 December.

The book features a foreword by legendary chef Michel Roux, of the Waterside in Bray. Roux says: "The foodies in and around North Yorkshire are extremely lucky to have a chef in their neck of the foods who loves his surroundings, the people, the locality and local produce."

Pern's first book "Black Pudding & Foie Gras" won the 2009 Best UK Chef Book in the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris .

Pern said: "I've always wanted to showcase the heritage and versatility of game as part of what defines my idea of "Britishness" but in a light and informal mood."

Recipes featured include chicken hotch potch with Star Inn kitchen garden veg; smoked pheasant, savoy cabbage and beetroot terrine and shooters game pie.
