CAMRA delays Revitalisation project
In a letter to members, national chairman Colin Valentine said the original timeline of April 2017 to vote on changes to CAMRA’s remit could now by pushed back to 2018, due to the ‘far reaching’ scale of the proposals.
Either an extraordinary general meeting or an event in Coventry in 2018 will then decide the future proposals of the 180,000 member group.
Feedback
Valentine explained the decision was made after its committee gave feedback on the consultation meetings, which have been held across the country since the Revitalisation programme was announced in March by co-founder Michael Hardman.
A proposal on the future is due to be delivered to its national executive in December this year – following a third survey of members and further consultation with external stakeholders.
Valentine said: “The Steering Committee believe that it is likely to be necessary to delay the timescale for a final decision by members, originally planned to take place at a members weekend in Bournemouth in April 2017.
Far-reaching
“As the implications of any decision will be far-reaching, the national executive believe that it would be prudent to use the 2017 Conference for a debate on the proposals, and their implications for CAMRA and to then hold a vote at a general meeting at a later date.”
Valentine also appeared to criticise the original timeline in his letter stating: “It is important that CAMRA gets it right, rather than rushing to meet an arbitrary deadline that was set before the work on this fundamental review of our common purpose ever began.”
