Uber launching carbon-negative pub
The 55k Tonnes in Westminster is set to open its doors next week, from Monday 7 until Wednesday 9 October.
There will be a range of carbon-saving technologies featured including Pavegen flooring, which transforms footsteps into electrical power.
Consumers will also be able to generate electricity while sipping a beer in the saddle of energy-generating power bikes.
Drinks offer
The pub has been created to celebrate the 55,000 tonnes of air pollution saved in London in the past three years via Uber’s electrification efforts and it will open ahead of the transport firm’s second annual global climate event – Go-Get Zero.
Carbon-neutral brews will be on offer with a happy starting at 5.50pm including £5.50 drinks designed to encourage people not to travel at rush hour alongside discounts on Uber Green rides to get customers home from the pub.
Furthermore, each sustainable brew sold will come with a 55% Uber Green discount in a bid to help guests get home safely and sustainably.
South London’s Gipsy Hill Brewing’s carbon-negative beer Swell will be available on draught.

Uber UK general manager Andrew Brem said: “In the UK, pubs are where we exchange ideas and opinions and what better way to promote a dialogue on electrification in the UK than with a carbon-negative pub.
“The opening of the 55k Tonnes in Westminster showcases Uber’s commitment to sustainability in London and beyond.”
According to the car booking app, London has become its global electric vehicle (EV) capital with almost 30% of Uber miles in the capital being driven by EVs.
It launched its electric-only option, Uber Green, in 2021, which costs the same as a standard UberX while drivers also earn around 10% more on Uber Green trips.
