Furthermore, with the automatic extension to extend licensing hours now in play, the trade body revealed the early results of an extended licensing survey it is doing for the police suggested bout 40% of pubs will be using the later licence if England wins.
Taking the average pub capacities into account and drinking patterns for extended hours on a Wednesday, the BBPA also estimated a further boost to sales of about 750,000 pints, worth £3.6m in sales.
Hugely significant
Chief executive Emma McClarkin said: “England’s semi-final match against the Netherlands is the team’s last obstacle on their way to the final and will be hugely significant for every pub showing the match, given the expected trade boost with almost 9m extra pints being sold if England win.
“Breweries across the country are making extra deliveries to ensure pubs are fully stocked ahead of the game as every football fan knows, there is no better place to watch the match and cheer on the England team than down the local with friends and strangers alike.
“With more than £40m in additional sales for the England semi-final match alone, the Euros have been a godsend for the beer and pub sector in what so far has been a wet summer and I urge everyone to support their local and the England team and raise a glass to every goal scored.”
