Yorkshire gastropub named one of best-rated in world
The Black Swan at Oldstead, situated next to the North York Moors, was included in the platform’s 18th annual Travellers’ Choice Awards. The one Michelin-starred country pub is no stranger to such accolades from TripAdvisor, taking the title of 'best restaurant in the world’ in 2017. It was also 2018’s Highest New Entry on the Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub's ranking.
Chef-patron Tommy Banks shared his delight at the news and thanked staff for their hard work on social media.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded Traveller’s Choice Best Fine-Dining Restaurant in the UK and 4th Best in the World by @tripadvisor.

The only other UK restaurant to make the world top ten in the same category was Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire.
High standards
James Kay, Tripadvisor spokesperson said: “This has been an incredibly tough year for the UK’s hospitality industry, but with doors opening again to hotels and restaurants across the country, now is the right time to celebrate those businesses that have delivered consistently outstanding service and quality over the last year.
“With so many winning properties coming from the UK this year, it is testament to the high standards of hospitality we enjoy domestically, and that should give Brits the confidence to venture out and support the industry’s vital recovery.”
The site will reopen its doors on 12 August after months of closure following the Prime Minister's ordered shutdown of pubs and restaurants across the country in March to contain the spread of coronavirus. Banks reopened his family's second restaurant site, Roots York, this week on 24 July.
TripAdvisor's list is based on the quality and quantity of the millions of reviews, opinions and ratings collected on its platform in 2019, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.
