Drygate Brewing Co is hosting C > S K : 16 festival to celebrate the benefits of cask ale next week (Friday 11 November- Sunday 13 November).

Over three days, the Glaswegian company will open the doors to its 7 Peaks production facility and showcase more than 100 cask-conditioned beers with food pairings and music.

The festival will honour the format of craft beer, where many experimental and ground-breaking recipes first originated.

Tickets will be £5 with a free pint on arrival, after which princes will start from £2 a pint. Tickets are available at: drygate.com/events

Where it all began

Drygate operations director Matt Corden said: “We felt it was time to celebrate where it all began. All breweries start making cask-conditioned ales and we wanted to bring our love of cask ales to a new audience.

“[This is] a great opportunity for those not familiar with the format to find a new favourite.”

Up Front Brewing’s Jake Griffin said: “It is vitally important [that] cask beer production is encouraged in the rapidly changing wold of beer.

“For most small brewers, it provides a quick and simple way of getting their beers to a wider audience, while providing a method of showcasing their beers in the best possible condition, alive, full of flavour, and naturally carbonated for improved body.

“Some beers just taste better on cask, and for this reason alone, we should celebrate cask beer for putting beer at its best in the hands of the masses.”

All-round winners

This year, Drygate’s Orinoco beer was awarded Bronze at the Scottish Beer Awards.

In 2015 the brewery won four awards at the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) Scotland Festival.

The four awards were: gold for Seven Peaks Mosaic IPA in the Strong Bitters/Pale Ales On-Cask category and silver in the overall Champion Beer of Scotland competition.

Bearface Lager also achieved gold in the Lager/Pilsner category, while Ax Man Rye IPA won silver in the Strong Bitters/Pale Ale category.
