Punch publicans of the year north-east and Cumbria
Punch licensees Alan Bryan and Nicola Kay of the Avenue Inn, Durham, have been recognised as Publican of the Year for the North East and Cumbria region.

The couple have been running the pub and B&B since August 2014 and have recently completed an investment into their letting rooms.

The pair were recognised at a dedicated awards evening held at The Parkwood Hotel in Stockton, which was attended by publicans from across the area.

“The Avenue has gone from strength to strength thanks to their hard work and commitment and has received tremendous feedback from all quarters,” said regional operations director Mandy Southall.

“Their line cleaning is outstanding and the reviews on TripAdvisor and through our mystery shoppers speak for themselves.  Together they make a fantastic team, and the pub is at the heart of the community where it belongs.”

First

This was the first time these awards were held in the North East region, with 300 pubs eligible to enter. Each area manager in the North East and Cumbria nominated their own Publican of the Year for the award.

Giles Kendall, operations director at Punch, said: “It’s very important for us to continually recognise the great achievements of our publicans, and awards such as these are a great opportunity for everybody to get together and celebrate their hard work.”
