Do not drink: "Shattering" bottles recalled
Three beers from Staffordshire Brewery have been recalled after some of the bottles were “shattering” due to faulty glass.

Staffordshire Brewery's Cheddleton Golden Ale, Cheddleton Christmas Ale and Golden Farmhouse Cider, all in 1000ml flagon bottles of all batches and date codes, have been recalled.

Bottles may shatter

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised anyone with the products not to drink them, as the bottles may shatter and be a risk to health.

Anyone with the beers has been asked to contact Cottage Delight Ltd on 01538 398839 or dhnyvglznggref@pbggntrqryvtug.pb.hx for a refund.

The company will be contacting all its retail customers to inform them of the recall and asking them to display a point-of-sale notice.

Cottage Delight Ltd distribute 80% of Staffordshire Brewery's beer.

A spokesman for the brewery said: "In this case they supplied and purchased this particular glassware for us to fill with our beer on their behalf. We consider the problem to lie with the bottle manufacture, and not the product in it."

What to do

Cottage Delight Ltd released a notice stating: “Issue: There may be a fault with the glass in this bottle.

“What to do: If you have purchased one of these bottles, please contact Quality Department, Cottage Delight Ltd.”

FSA notices

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be 'withdrawn' - taken off the shelves, or 'recalled'  - customers are asked to return the product.

The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a 'Food Alert for Action' is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.
