A Thornton Heath publican has launched a new ‘pub credit’ website that allows people to buy their mates a pint remotely.

Sheila Shaw, a freehold licensee of The Prince George in High Street first struck upon the idea for Gr8niteout.com four years ago after growing concerned about the declining pub trade.

The website enables members to purchase tokens as gifts for friends or family, regardless of where they are in the world, which can then be exchanged in participating venues for drinks or food.

“I created the site to help people like myself who struggle to make ends meet every day,” Shaw told the PMA.

“We speak to friends and family on social media sites every day, now we will be able to be part of their big nights out by buying them a drink or meal in whatever pub they’re going to as long as it’s registered to gr8niteout.”

Publicans can sign up to the website for free and receive their own home page on which they can advertise events, post photos, and have access to a ‘caught on camera’ page where images and information about crimes against pubs can be shared.

There is also a licensee-only forum where issues affecting publicans can be discussed. Alternatively, landlords can pay £99 plus VAT for a Pro Account which provides additional access to the pub credit facility, buying groups that secure ‘huge discounts’ across ‘drinks and essential pub equipment’ and a ‘buy and sell’ section for second-hand items.

Gr8niteout.com also lists pub locations, special offers and names venues showing live sport.
