Anglian Country Inns' site the Fox at Willian has been announced as Gastro Pub of the Year for England in the inaugural Food Awards England and Wales 2014.

The Gastro Pub of the Year Award was split into four regions, with a winner from each area. The Fox was the winner for the South, the winner for the North was Seafood Pub Company's Oyster and Otter at Feniscowles, Lancashire; the Midlands winner was the Hen & Chickens in Birmingham and the Conway in Cardiff was the winner for Wales.

Winning criteria

The awards, which is voted for by the public, recognise pubs that successfully combine the provision of enjoyable food, and a warm welcome with a high standard of management.

They are designed to recognise the efforts of England and Wales restaurants, takeaways, gastropubs, hotel restaurants, cafes and bistros and also recognise the local producers who supply their delicious ingredients.
The awards ceremony was hosted by Miss United Kingdom Rachelle Perez at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel.

John Anderson, the Fox's general manager said: "To be recognised in the first Food Awards England and Wales, is a great honour. To be announced overall winner in England, is an absolutely stunning achievement and we are more than delighted especially as the votes have come from the public."
