Pub on Wheels venture launched
The venture, which is led by David Watt, ex-head of hospitality and sales for the Ryder Cup, has so far secured two former Ministry of Defence trucks (called Monty and Vera) that have been converted into fully operational pub, complete with a 5.5m bar, draft beers, 10 fridges (four of which are keg coolers) and room for 30 covers each.
The new project is aimed at three parts of the market high turnover events, such as music festivals and sporting events; as a ’white label’ unit, where a brand can take over the vehicle for its own purposes, and private events, such as weddings.
The founders plan to create “a highly versatile and completely mobile group of pub trucks that takes the philosophy, the products and the service style of the pubs into the event market place”.
The company has worked with a leading coach building business to refine the concept to a high quality. With their own on board generators, the trucks are also completely self-sufficient once they get to where they are going.
The vehicles will also provide a free Wi-Fi service for customers.
It is thought that the venture will officially launch next month in London, with the company planning to add a further five vehicles to its fleet during 2015.
It is thought that Cirrus Inns, the investment vehicle launched to back a premium estate of freehold pubs with rooms, has made a significant investment in the new business.
