England cricket legend Mike Gatting was guest of honour at a Shropshire pub after the publicans won a competition run through the PMA.

Jo and AJ Dando from the Malt Shovel in Leegomery near Telford were given the chance to host an evening with Gatting by Marston’s Pedigree.

In an in-depth question and answer session before a busy pub, Gatting charted his career from a sports-mad boy from Kingsbury, North London to Ashes triumph with the national team. Customers were given the chance to ask questions and Gatting posed for pictures afterwards.

Licensee, Jo Dando said: “Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event and it was a real pleasure to meet the man and hear his stories. I am amazed at how much detail he remembers and how much he truly loved playing cricket. It’s been a wonderful boost for the pub and we’ve really enjoyed all the publicity surrounding the event, thanks to Marston’s and their association with cricket.”

Gaynor Green, marketing manager for Marston’s Pedigree, said: “Whilst we love being involved with cricket at a national level through our official sponsorship of the England Cricket Team it is wonderful to be able to share the benefits of that link at grass roots level with fans and supporters in pubs.”
