Two pub chefs have made the final of this year’s British BBQ Battle which takes place at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on 18 June (tomorrow).

Dave Alebon from the Brasshouse in Birmingham (Stonegate Pubs) and Carol Haime, owner/chef of the Sandrock in Farnham, Surrey and development chef for Shepherd Neame, will compete alongside six other finalists representing four different hospitality sectors.

The contest is being organsied by equipment supplier RH Hall.

The finalists had to submit a description of a three-course meal that can be cooked on a barbecue within an hour.

President of the British BBQ Association and head judge Ben Bartlett will be scoring the finalists not only on taste and appearance of their final dishes but also on their barbecuing techniques.

“The standard of entries for this year’s British BBQ Battle surpassed all expectations,” said Bartlett.

“Each of the finalists’ dishes show great creativity and I can’t wait to see how they perform and how these final dishes are presented on the day.”

Last year’s winner in the pub category was Fiona Dulake from the Boot in St Alban’s in Hertfordshire with a menu of Newlyn sardine splash, Queenie’s mustard gammon steak and Kentish marshmallows.
