A 75.5% ABV spiced rum to hit UK pubs

The “world’s first” 75.5% ABV spiced rum is about hit UK bars.

The high strength Old J Tiki Fire 151 is a limited edition launch from Signature Brands aimed at cocktail and Tiki bars.

It uses the same recipe of spices as the original Old J rum but is just higher in alcohol, the company said.

“151 refers to the proof of the rum,” said a spokesperson.

“There is no direct competition but Bacardi have a 151 and Goslings also have a 151 version of their Black Seal rum.  Wray and Nephew is also an overproof white rum at 63.3% abv.  No self-respecting cocktail bar should be considered complete without the world’s only Spiced 151 – Old J Tiki Fire.”

It is said to “mix brilliantly” with coke, ginger or Ting (a sparkling grapefruit juice popular in the Caribbean) or can be served as a “Tiki Fire Bomb,” when a shot of the rum is lit and dropped into a glass of energy drink.

Admiral Vernon’s Old J was originally launched back in 2012 for disgruntled fans of Sailor Jerry spiced rum, which had undergone a change in recipe prompting a 15,000 strong Facebook campaign to bring back the old taste.
