The oldest barmaid in Britain turns 100 this week - but has no plan to retire.

Dolly Saville, who still puts in a three-hour shift on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at the Red Lion Hotel in Wendover, Buckinghamshire, has become a tourist attraction in her own right.

Saville first began pulling pints at the pub in 1940 at the age of 26 and has only ever taken two weeks off sick during that time.

Hotel manager Martin Howard said: “She’s quite an amazing person. She still chats to all the customers, gets on really well with all the staff, and goes out on the staff parties. She’s slowed down a bit over the last six years but the customers love her; people come in far and wide just to see her.”

  • Is Dolly the oldest barmaid or barman in Britain? Or, for that matter, the world? If you know someone who could challenge for that title please contact james.wallin@wrbm.com or call 01293 610457
