Wanted: pubs for classic car rallies
Carole Nash Insurance admits it is struggling to find the right pubs for its events, which usually attract between 250 and 350 attendees.
Peter McIlvenny, director of cherished cars at Carole Nash, said he was looking for about 10 pubs around the country at which to hold the classic car meets. He told the Publican's Morning Advertiser: “We need pubs for the summer next year but also for some winter meets in January and February, as well as some classic car quiz nights we are looking to hold."
'Repeat business'
He added: “Our average client is aged 54 and tends to be the type of person who can afford to dine out, so we would hope that, as well as winning some business in the medium term, the pubs can benefit from repeat business. In fact some one of the pubs we use give out vouchers on the night for a free bottle of wine with two meals on their next visit.”
The Fox in Hallaton village in Leicestershire hosted a recent rally that attracted 70 cars. According to Classic Car Buyer magazine, which covered the event: “Although the pub’s car park and lawned garden area had been reserved solely for classics, the number of vehicles coming through the gate was so great that latecomers had to park up in a specially laid-out field next door.
“Guest of honour at the gathering was TV restoration guru Fuzz Townsend, who had taken time out from filming a new episode of his popular Car SOS series so he could take part in an informal question and answer session.”
