Adam Marshall, chief executive of London-based bar group Grand Union, has named Bristol, Bath, Manchester and Brighton as possible locations for the company once it has reached its target of between 20 and 25 sites in the capital.

Marshall said he believes the openings target could be reached “very quickly” following Luke Johnson’s investment in the business; the serial sector investor took a 50% stake in Grand Union earlier this month and became its chairman.

Marshall said: “We’re now in a position to take four or five sites at a time if we can find the right opportunities. It could happen very quickly, but if it takes three or four years, that’s fine too.

“We’re looking at parts of London we’re not in, so there’s plenty of scope, and we can add another 10 to 15 sites here before we look outside.

“Then we’ll see if we can make the brand work in other cities, places such as Bristol, Bath, Manchester and Brighton.”

Marshall added he had already had several meetings with Johnson about the progress of the business.
