Molson Coors is to sell some of its wholesale operations to Manchester-based drinks wholesaler LWC Drinks for an undisclosed sum.

Under the proposal, Coors Wholesale, a standalone business separate from Molson Coors’ independent on-trade wholesaling division, is to be taken on by LWC Drinks on 17 June.

Molson Coors bought the business, which includes two depots in Hartlepool and Consett employing 35 people, from County Durham-based brewer Camerons in 2007.

A spokesman for Molson Coors told M&C Report: “The employees at both sites are currently undergoing consultation about their roles under the new management. Our customers will see no disruption as a result of this decision and we remain committed to offering the licensed trade a full wholesale service.”

Ebrahim Mukadam, managing director of LWC Drinks, said that LWC would “absolutely” consider further acquisitions if the right opportunities arise. The company is set to open another depot in Leeds in mid-July, which combined with the Coors Wholesale units, would take it to 13 sites.

Mukadam said Coors Wholesale is “a good fit” because the company is looking to “improve our standing in the north east”.
