Dragons' Den star Theo Paphitis revealed as skills patron of the Skills Show
The Skills Show is the UK’s biggest skills and careers event, providing young people with the chance to find out about a career in a range of industries, including the hospitality and catering sectors.
Delivered in partnership with the Skills Funding Agency and the National Apprenticeship Service, with sponsorship from City & Guilds, the show raises awareness of the importance of vocational skills and careers. Up to 100,000 visitors are expected, notably students of all ages, parents, teachers and employers.
Visitors can see a wide range of national skills competition finals and take part in a variety of Have a Go activities, where over 50 different skills can be tried at first hand. They can also receive information and advice on training, career choices and apprenticeships.
Paphitis said: “The economy needs growth. A workforce with an improved skills base means that we are better equipped as a nation to compete internationally. But don’t forget the benefits to individuals too. People’s confidence grows as they learn skills, which makes their careers more fulfilling.
"As skills patron for the Skills Show, I’m passionate about improving skills levels across the UK and ensuring that young people know about the huge range of opportunities available to them."
