Enterprise Inns permits tenants to buy wines and spirits ‘out of tie’ following WaverleyTBS administration
The pub company says this is part of its agreement with tenants and that is working hard to resume supply of the products affected by WaverleyTBS’s fall into administration.
Enterprise licensee Gavin Spencer, of the Cock, in Lavenham, Suffolk, told the PMA: “We phoned up Enterprise for the beer order as usual. However, we had been watching the trade press and twitter with interest and asked if orders for wines and spirits would go through.
“We were advised by Enterprise to buy outside of the tie and to give them the receipts so they could calculate the precise revenue they would have suffered.
“We haven’t done it (bought outside) yet - we are a rural outlet and as such don’t have the same contacts as other pubs. I think it will leave a certain amount of pubs in limbo.”
An Enterprise spokesperson said: “As a result of the situation with WaverleyTBS, Enterprise confirms that as part of our agreement with publicans, they are permitted to purchase products from other suppliers when such products are unavailable.
“We have informed our publicans of the situation in the interests of their business, and we are working hard to re-establish supply of the products in question.”
Meanwhile, Greene King has offered to reprint wine lists for free should its tenants experience any future supply difficulties with Waverley.
A spokesperson said: “Greene King is continuing to trade with WaverleyTBS and will support the business until a buyer can be found.
“We are doing everything we can to ensure our supply chain is not disrupted and to minimise any possible disruption in our businesses. At present our supply chain is secure and we have put a contingency plan in place in case of future problems.
“We have kept our tenants updated on the situation, offering advice and support. For any tenants experiencing future supply difficulties with Waverley wines, Greene King has offered to re-print wine lists for free if tenants choose to buy alternative wines from us.”
