Innsatiable: Unlicensed bar operator Simon Atkins lashes out at the Publican's Morning Advertiser
The PMA reported yesterday that West Surrey MP Hunt is to write to the Home Office to urge it to close a loophole which allows Simon Atkins to give away “free” alcohol to the public from the controversial venue Innsatiable, in Farnham, Surrey.
However, Atkins, who runs Innsatiable primarily as a "furniture store", has accused the PMA of “talking bull” and displaying a “lack of support” to its readers.
In an email sent to the PMA, Atkins wrote: “You really should get your story correct before running this piece. I can absolutely guarantee your (sic) talking bull about Mr Hunt.”
The PMA has assurances from Surrey Police and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (Jeremy Hunt’s previous department) that Hunt will write to the Home Office, specifically the minister in charge of licensing, in order to “seek a change in legislation to close such a loophole which allows this type of premise to operate”.
Atkins went on to suggest that increasing cost pressures and the PMA’s approach to its readership are to blame for the pub industry’s ills.
“Your lack of support to your readers and their struggle against the high prices they have to pay the breweries and large pub cos will sadly be the industry’s demise,” said Atkins.
“The industry that you are meant to represent have empty premises because the high prices being forced upon them from not the government but the necessity of these massive companies to earn for the shareholders.
“Cheaper prices mean butts on seats, cash flow eased and the pubs return to where they used to be - the heart of the community.”
