Couple celebrate 30 years in Harlow pub
“They are the reason I am here today,” she said, adding: “I don’t think there are many people who have lasted as long as I have.
“I have learnt that I am not the guv’nor — my customers pay my way and I think you just have to be sociable with your customers and not be above them. It is about being part of the community.”
Day began in the industry at the age of 18 and spent three nights a week working in a pub. “I enjoyed it so much that it just went from there,” she said. “It is a way of life, but not a normal life.
“I think the trouble is that there are a lot of people who want to run a pub and it isn’t what they expect when they come into it.”
