Pubs urged to review dog policies
Pubs are being urged to review their policies on allowing dogs in pubs following a spate of attacks.

Environmental health consultants Perry Scott Nash told the Publican’s Morning Advertiser that seven incidents of violence involving dogs had been reported by its pub clients in May alone, compared to only five dog-bite incidents for the whole of 2011.

Of the occurrences last month — five involved dog bites, while dogs were used on two occasions to intimidate customers into handing over money and mobile phones.

The firm said the trend highlighted the need for pubs to have appropriate policies in place.

“If the incident involves an employee they could face prosecution under health and safety legislation for not properly controlling the risk,” Andy Cox, Perry Scott Nash’s business development manager warned.
