Community pubs month gets support from 5,000 licensees
More than 5,000 pubs have already signed up in support of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Community Pubs Month in April.

The event is a new initiative organised by CAMRA to champion the vital importance of community pubs.

The aims of the month are to increase footfall in local pubs, to increase the awareness of pubs as invaluable community assets, to encourage licensees to organise and promote events to attract further trade, and to give pubs a PR boost.

Signing up to Community Pubs Month is totally free, and CAMRA has invested significant funds to ensure every pub involved receives free material such as beer mats, posters, leaflets and pump clip crowners. This material can be used to promote support for the campaign, or for actively promoting any events a pub might usually lay on during April.

Pubs can also use the Community Pubs Month website to list any events that are taking place — these can be anything from a weekly pub quiz to a one-off charity bash.

CAMRA head of marketing Tony Jerome said: “We know how hard many pubs are having to work in the current climate in order to stay afloat. One of the key drivers of Community Pubs Month is to shout out loud about the many different ways pubs support their local communities by offering a wide range of events that engage local people and encourage them to come together.

“There is no restriction on the number of events that pubs can advertise via the Community Pubs Month website, and as we will be directing the national media and consumers to this site in April, we encourage all pubs to use it to showcase their plans for the month.”

CAMRA is looking in the coming weeks for as many people as possible — licensees and pubgoers alike —
to sign up their local to this flagship initiative via www.communitypubsmonth.org.uk
