Marston’s, the pub operator and brewer, has identified a site for its first pub on the Isle of Wight.

A licence application hearing for the proposed site in Lake is due to take place on Thursday (19 January). The new-build pub would be subject to planning permission and be located at Merrie Gardens Farm near Spithead Business Centre.
Marston’s currently plans to open 25 new-build sites each year, and chief executive Ralph Findlay told M&C Report in November that this expansion rate would continue “for the foreseeable future”. In November M&C Report reported that Marston’s was set to apply for planning permission for a first site in Scotland, in Dunbar, East Lothian.
Average weekly turnover at the most recently opened new builds is £27k, way ahead of its £20k per week target. The average new build costs c.£2.5m.
