Greene King has launched touch-screen kiosks — for customers to order their own food — at selected Hungry Horse outlets in a bid to speed up service.

They are being trialled in the Sunnyside and the Sixfields outlets in Northampton, the Newton Park in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the Sherwood in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, and the Sloop Inn in Newton Abbot, Devon.

The machines are similar to the self-service machines at train stations and are said to be easy-to-use, with staff being on hand at all times.

Customers can pay only by card, and if there are any alterations to the order they will need to go to the bar.

It is understood that the units are located in the restaurant areas, and customers can just walk in and select their order.

A Greene King spokeswoman said that this is one of its “initiatives under review”.
