Sykes: praised for his leadership
Beds and Bars chairman Tim Sykes was crowned Best Individual at the MA250 Awards for independent multiple operators in London yesterday.

Sykes recently finished a three year stint as chairman of the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers and also leads the Pub Aid scheme, which showcases the good work pubs do for charity.

Sykes was praised for “providing a steady hand at the tiller, for having a strong sense of what is right and wrong and for sticking to his guns” while representing the trade.

“When we talk of trade leaders, he is the epitome of that, showing an ability to steer a path through choppy waters and willingness to lead projects that showcase the very best work of the industry,” said PMA head of digital Ewan Turney.

“Tim is a trusted, elder statesman of the industry and has shown drive, energy, tenacity, courage and great patience throughout his long and distinguished career in the industry.”

Group editor The PMA Team said: “The MA250 group is a fast-flowing river of retailing energy and ideas that’s sprung up in a difficult, even arid, environment.

“It’s a club chock-full of innovative and creative people who, without exception, are winners.”
