The British Institute of Innkeeping (BII) is welcoming entries for its Licensee of the Year Award, which has now entered its 27th year.

The Licensee of the Year Award seeks to reward licensees that are making the most of the resources they have, regardless of what type of venue they run.

The judges decision will be based on:

  • Demonstration of high levels of business acumen
  • A clear commitment to staff development
  • Entrant’s passion for the licence trade and their ability to speak knowledgably about industry issues
  • Whether the entrant is deemed to be a fitting ambassador for the industry

BII chief executive Neil Robertson said: “Every year more and more licensees take the challenge and enter themselves for this prestigious award and we’re expecting this year’s to be the biggest yet.

“The BII Licensee of the Year Awards are about recognising and showcasing excellence in our industry. The process is as important as the outcome, because it encourages people to look at what they’re doing and find new ways to make improvements; they’re very competitive awards and bring out the best in everyone.”

Current BII Licensee of the Year, Darran Lingley from the Five Bells, Colne Engaine, Essex said: “If you run a pub and enter just one competition then it has to be this one, probably one of the best decisions I ever made."

The BII Licensee of the Year will be revealed at the BII Annual Lunch, which takes place at Grosvenor House Hotel on 8 May 2012.

Visit www.bii.org/loya for more information. The closing date for entries is Monday 9 January 2012. All UK licensees can enter, BII membership is not required.
