Chef Marc Dalla-Riva, who formerly worked under Gary Rhodes at Bibendum and Launceston Place, is making a move into the pub trade by taking a lease on a central London pub.

Dalla-Riva is being advised by Christopher Barber, former personal chef to the Prince of Wales and current managing director of consultancy Leiths Food Solutions, for the venture.

Dalla-Riva’s company D-R Developments has taken a lease of Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company site the Boadicea in Clerkenwell.

It is held on the remainder of a 25-year lease at a passing rent of £59,000.

A refurbishment of the 2,400sq ft premises, located on St John Street, is planned towards the end of the year. The pub has a 2am licence.

The previous lessee was Angela Long, a cocktail industry and general business consultant, who also owns and operates the
Loft Bar & Kitchen in Canterbury, Kent.

Chris Bickle, of Davis Coffer Lyons, which handled the deal, said: “The Boadicea is a fantastic business and presents an excellent opportunity for Marc to build on the existing reputation.

“The pub is in a great location and I am sure the new owners will enjoy a great deal of success there.

“There is a consistent demand for sites like this in central London and in good suburbs.”
