Macfarlane: wants to simplify on-trade business model
Stella Artois and Budweiser brewer A-B InBev UK plans to close its independent free-trade business, with a number of staff facing redundancy.

The company has entered a 30-day consultation with an undisclosed number of employees, who are sales and supporting staff, located across the country.

Stuart MacFarlane, pictured, president of A-B InBev UK said: “In order to simplify our on-trade business model in England and Wales and remain competitive in a difficult market compounded by record duty increases, we proposed changes to the management of our direct independent free-trade business.

“We will be transferring the majority of our direct independent free-trade customer base, in England and Wales, to regional and wholesale partners to sell, promote and distribute A-B InBev brands.

“Employees who may be affected will enter into consultation. We are fully committed to treating employees with respect throughout.”
