Two licensees have been forced to take down a Hungarian flag outside their pub after suffering repeated threats of violence.

Carl Durose and Eniko Pusztavari of the Horseshoe Inn in Ledbury, Herefordshire, displayed the flag to reflect the pub's menu and Pusztavari's Hungarian heritage. Durose said that since erecting the flag they received numerous threats of violence, with people insisting that they only fly the St George's cross.

"After the first incident, I looked into buying a second flagpole so we could fly both flags," said Durose. But be-fore he had a chance to buy a second flagpole more people started complaining.

Durose said: "At one point, I thought we were going to get a brick through the window, but things seem to have calmed down now we've taken the flag down. There's a group of men that no longer come in here, which is probably a good thing."

Pusztavari added: "I moved to the UK six years ago and I've always found it such a welcoming country. Since these incidents, I feel scared living here."

The pair have since received support from police, councillors and the local vicar. They will consider rehoisting the flag in six to 12 months' time.
