With the country still recovering from the latest round of rioting across the country, the stories from publicans about their experiences of the disturbances are pouring in.

Alastair Wildblood, assistant manager, Pub on the Park, Hackney:

"We shut early at about 5pm which was cutting it a bit fine. There were a lot of kids loitering about outside and we were actually very lucky that no damage was caused. We were about 100 yards from where the police line was.

"It is very quiet outside at the moment - we normally have a very strong morning trade and it is just deserted today."

Hudak Gabor, manager, the Falcon, Clapham Junction:

"The party shop was burnt out and the Debenhams was robbed about 9pm. We closed the pub at about 9pm and the area has been closed down. There was no police around. The police have said we are not able to open up yet today. They need to clean the streets up first."

Samantha Kerr, the Bodega Bar and Cantina, Birmingham:

"We've got a cracked window, which we think was caused by a brick because it is quite a large crack. No one was hurt and as it all started to kick off, we decided to close."

Alan McCabe, manager of the Old Fox and Hounds pub in Croydon, south London, told the BBC:

"It kicked off very quickly, very sharpishly, and we tried moving people out the pub as fast as possible. We blocked up the front doors and moved them out the back. I ripped off all the spirits off the optic behind the bar, so that if anyone did break in they couldn't be Molotovs. I've never seen such a disregard for human life."
