A junior sous chef from Huddersfield has won the Hellmann's Vinaigrettes Design a Dish competition following a public vote.

James Thompson's lemon meringue pie with raspberries was the winner, giving him a trip to New York and a feature in Hellmann's online magazine Best Dressed.

The Cedar Court Hotel chef used the citrus vinaigrette from Unilever Food Solutions Hellmann's vinaigrettes in the dessert, which is now a bestseller at the restaurant.

"I'm so glad that I've had an opportunity to show people what I can do," said Thompson. "The fact that my dish has been voted the best, and I've won the chance to go to New York, is amazing. I can't believe it."

Leon Mills, category manager for Hellmann's, said: "It just proves that there's a number of different applications for our fantastic Hellmann's Vinaigrettes that can add real value to your menu — sweet or savoury."
