Greene King has launched a range of interactive online 'Ale Trails', which will offer virtual and real-life trips around some of London's best pubs.

In previous years, the 'Ale Trail' has been run entirely 'offline', but trails and pub history can now be accessed online and via smartphones.

The trails, which use Google Maps to plot the pubs and the route between them, will include City & Spitalfields; Southwark and the City; Westminster & Soho; and Kensington & Marylebone.

Greene King is hoping to expand the digital Ale Trails into other cities, with Bath next to be developed.

Richard Woodger, manager at the Old Tea Warehouse, on the City & Spitalfields Trail said: "We know our regulars loved the Ale Trails in the past, but with the development of the new website we hope that many more people will discover the trails and the great pubs on them.

"We've worked really hard to make the site easy to use and understand, and hope that all sorts of people - tourists and visitors to London, as well as those who perhaps want to get out and explore the great city that they live in and maybe enjoy a pint or two along the way - will now find out about the Trails, and enjoy them as much as we do."

Greene king is running the trails in conjunction with marketing company Snowball.
