Glendola Leisure, the bar, club and restaurant operator led by Alex Salussolia, has bought the two Frankenstein bars in Glasgow and Edinburgh from Saltire Taverns, for an undisclosed sum.

The company said it intends to run both bars as they are in the short term, but will seek to develop both into new concepts within the next year.

The new sites are the second and third of four planned acquisitions this year for the group, which recently established a new banking facility with Barclays. The deals come three weeks after the company secured the lease on Enterprise Inns' Cricketers in

Cobham, Surrey — Glendola's first country pub.

Managing director Salussolia said: "We are delighted to grow our business in Scotland and the two Frankenstein units will be a fantastic addition to our company.

"We have been running Waxy O'Connor's in Glasgow for 12 years, which has been a very successful venture for us and we have been constantly looking for additional opportunities. Now, not only will we have a second Glasgow unit, but we also have the chance to expand into the Edinburgh market."

Aside from the Glasgow site, other Waxys operated by Glendola include ones in Manchester and London's Piccadilly, the World's End pub and Underworld, both in Camden, north London, Brogan's Irish Bar, in Fulham, and the Star & Garter in Putney, south-west London.

Saltire Taverns operates a handful of leisure properties in Scotland.

The company's estate is anchored by the Le Monde boutique hotel and entertainment complex in Edinburgh, which features three Continental-themed bars.
