Dave Daly, manager of the Castle in Blackpool, has received the Gold Badge award from trade union Unite for his work as a shop steward for 34 years.

Daly has supported those working in the trade within the north-west through his tireless work.

He was also president of the National Association of Licensed House Managers, now part of Unite.

Daly said: "In 1977, when I first started in the trade, I used to be a shop steward, and thought of managing a bar as a hobby. We have much better industrial relationships now than in the '80s. The industry has moved on a lot. There's not as many jobs any more. It's been a great journey for me."

President of Unite (north-west) Paul Naylor said: "In his voluntary role as shop steward for the union, Dave has worked tirelessly to support others for 34 years.

"He is highly respected in the organisation and in his industry, as a licensee and national committee member of Pubwatch."
