Pubs in Otley are renaming themselves for the Royal Wedding on April 29 in honour of Kate Middleton's connections to the area.

Pubs in Otley, West Yorkshire, are renaming themselves for the Royal Wedding on April 29 in honour of Kate Middleton's connections to the area.

The town centre's 17 pubs will be known as the Yorkshire Princess, reflecting Kate Middleton's family's relationship with the county, and particularly the Leeds area.

The pubs celebrated the marriage of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson in a similar way in July 1986 - naming all the pubs Prince Andrew.

This current initiative has been co-ordinated by Otley Pub Club, whose chairman Peter Jackson, said: "Otley is a famous Yorkshire pub town, which has laid claim to the title of having the largest number of hostelries per head of population.

"Celebrating the royal wedding is a great way if giving a much needed boost to Otley's pubs and, we think, that by changing their names is a fantastic way of putting the town on the map."

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West and a member of Otley Pub Club, said: "We hope this will encourage people to come to Otley and to raise a glass to William and Kate, and what better place to do so than one of the town's excellent pubs".

The initiative has been co-financed by the pub landlords and managers, as well as Otley Town Council.
