Somerset brewer and pub operator Butcombe has added three pubs to its estate with the acquisition of local operator Triple Rock for an undisclosed sum.

The three sites, which take Butcombe's estate to 20 pubs, are:

• The Frog & Fiddle, Cheltenham. A wet-only bar with that specialises in live music and comedy. The pub is held on a lease from a private landlord. Turnover is £700,000.

• The Pig & Fiddle, Bath. A large wet-led pub with a big outside area that is well known for screening live rugby. Held on a lease from the city council, its turnover is just under £1m.

• The Mill, Rhode, Somerset. The converted mill, which has a turnover of £1m, has a large trade in food and functions. It's held on a private lease.

Butcombe Brewery managing director Guy Newell told M&C Report: "We will expect to upgrade where necessary. They are in pretty good shape but we will look and see if there's anything we think we can do."

Triple Rock, which was founded in 1987, was run by brothers Chris and Paul Clark, who are set to stay on at Butcombe for three months to facilitate the handover.
