Twelve new spirits have been added to the JD Wetherspoon drinks offer this week, bringing the total number of spirits it stocks to 42.

All of the brands have been chosen because of their premium positioning in the market, although the drinks will still be sold in line with the chain's value-for-money strategy.

"Our new range of spirits is normally associated more with cocktails and hotel bars than pubs," said marketing director Rebecca Payton.

"We are certain that our customers will welcome them, especially at value-for-money prices."

The new range includes four new vodka brands, a gin and two rums.

Vodka brands include Skyy, the number-one vodka in the US, Eristoff Gold & Eristoff Black, which originate from Georgia, Absolut, from Sweden, plus Finlandia and Finlandia grapefruit.

Quirky gin Hendrick's, from Scotland, has also made it onto the list, along with the Canadian cinnamon whisky Fireball, Maker's Mark, Jura whisky and Lamb's Navy and Lamb's Spiced rums.

And Wetherspoon pubs will be offering a total of seven new long drinks and eight new cocktails using the spirits.

Serves include Hendrick's & orange juice, Finlandia grapefruit & tonic, Lamb's Navy rum & ginger ale and the Fire Breathing Monster (a mix of Fireball & Monster Energy) as well as more classic serves such as Maker's Mark & Pepsi or Hendrick's, tonic and cucumber.
