A voucher for a meal deal at a Nottingham pub, which appeared on the website Groupon, has been deemed misleading.

A promotion on the voucher website Groupon stated: "Today's deal: £24 instead of £92 for a four course meal for two, a bottle of wine or two pints of any alcoholic or soft drink at the multi award winning, Waggon and Horses — Save 74%".

One complainant said the ad was misleading because it exaggerated the possible saving.

Groupon said that the calculation of the offer price was made on the basis of the most expensive items exchangeable for the voucher and has since added that point to the small print.

It said that that price was available at the time they signed the deal with the Waggon and Horses, and to their knowledge the price had been available since.

The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that the saving should have been qualified with an "up to" and that it should have been made clear the 74% saving was based on the most expensive menu items.

"Because such qualifications were lacking, we concluded that the sales promotion was misleading," it said.
