The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) has created a guide for pubs and brewers to encourage them to take part in British Tourism Week (12 to 20 March).

The week presents the opportunity to showcase the central role that pubs play in the tourism and hospitality sector.

Pubs can get involved with the week through quizzes, British menu nights and other special events.

The BBPA recommends inviting a local MP to the pub on the week's 'constituency day' on Friday 18 March and pull a pint to mark the occasion.

Brewers can also get involved by brewing a special edition beer.

This year's events include a special celebration of coastal piers, giving nearby pubs and breweries a greater incentive to participate.

"Without Britain's beer and pubs the tourist industry in the UK wouldn't work," said BBPA chief executive Brigid Simmonds.

"For generations, visitors, both from home and abroad, have seen the pub as the beacon of hospitality — and something to be cherished.

"With the growth of the 'staycation', this has never been more important. British Tourism Week is a great chance for brewers and pubs to demonstrate the vital economic and social role we play."
