Pubs urged to back Al Murray in Walkers challenge for Comic Relief
Pubs are being given the chance to get behind Pub Landlord Al Murray in his bid to sell more crisps than his comedian colleagues for Comic Relief.
In an attempt to raise more than £1m for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day Walkers has launched its 'Clash of the Comics' campaign.
Four comedians - Stephen Fry, Jimmy Carr, Frank Skinner and Al Murray - will battle it out in a head-to-head challenge to sell the most of their own limited edition flavours.
And The Publican will be doing all it can to make sure pubs sell as many packs of 'Steak and Al Pie' as possible.
The campaign will help pubs drive sales and with 5p from every pack going to Comic Relief it will also raise funds for a great cause.
The other flavours available are Stephen Fry Up, Jimmy Con Carrne and Frank Roast Dinner.
When the winner is announced on Red Nose Day (March 18) the three runners-up will be subject to a waxing on TV - although which part of the body is to be cleared of hair has not yet been revealed.
Miranda Sambles, marketing director for Walkers, said merchandising and point of sale material (PoS) will be available to help pubs drive sales.
"Walkers is a loved brand and a true flavour innovator with proven success at engaging the nation. We are delighted to be putting this experience to good use by teaming up with Comic Relief to help raise over £1m for this inspirational charity with the 'Clash of the Comics' campaign.
"We hope that our customers will help us support this worthy cause by stocking up on the limited edition flavours and drive sales with impactful merchandising and PoS materials," she said.
And Al Murray revealed he is up for the battle ahead.
"What sounds more delicious than Steak and Al Pie crisps?! This is the food of the Brits - I'm going to win this on flavour alone! If Jimmy Carr thinks he can beat me with a bit of chilli then he has another thing coming. This is war!"
